Jasper Derisley
I'm 17 years old, currently in education and working weekends. My inspirations are good music, my family, friends and life.
I've been part of the band and good friends with everyone since I was a little grom and love making music with them.
I grew up in Bristol and moved to the Hayling Isle around 2003, shortly after I discovered a growing love for hip hop and haven't looked back.
Growing up I listened to everything from the Grateful Dead to Rage Against The Machine and Tribe Called Quest to Pantera.
From this I have a huge love for most genres of music and I have my parents and my brothers to thank for that.

Adam Alloway
Hi there folks I'm ad a mc for the slick minded individuals. I've been MCing now for about 3 years but started singing in a metal band before I changed my ways. I also studied music at Chichester college where I played bass as well.
I'm proud to say that I listen to all types of music but get the biggest buzz out of doing what we do as a unit. Its time for a change in the music business and I have complete faith in what we do.
My interests are in music, skateboarding, football and enjoying every minute that planet earth has to offer.
I would say more about the music that we make but I feel it speaks for its self. I'd like to shout out to everyone who's a fan of what we do and say that we're lucky to have great fans and, of course, great friends.
This is MC + A saying live long, be strong and push on.
James Rizzi
I have grown and flourished on the small Island of Hayling in Hampshire most of my life, blessed with a group of family and pals I am most chuffed to have around.
I first got the urge to play a guitar when I was 13 years of age after my cousin got me into alternative music when I was accepted into his circle of friends. I remember hearing guitar tones on certain albums (led zep, Metallica, Pantera, etc) and thinking wow, I just have to be able to do that!
My first guitar was a red squire strat from Argos which I believed I could play upside down (as I am a lefty) and without a plectrum. I proceeded to hit strings until the skin of my fingers ended up hanging from them. Eventually I sorted it all out and spent nearly 2-4 hours a day practicing in my room and driving my parent's nuts!
There is a lot to be said for those years as a chubby metal kid though! I can still bust out the solo to cowboys from hell...
After dedicating my teenage(and current) years to the art of music and studying at college and Uni not to mention struggling in numerous metal/pop/guitar wankery bands traveling around the land to peruse them (Reading, Guildford). In 2008, I helped form a group which worked and felt right at home.
A winning formula in this group is that the members are people that I have shared my world with grown with and trust to the end. I believe we are a band of knights on a quest to supplement folks with a wholesome slice of music that will inspire, enrich and hopefully bring forth dancing, singing, moshing, chanting and celebrations of life.
One of the many things I love about being a part of the S.M.I's is the freedom to create whatever we fancy. Some may call it "Hip Hop" but Hip Hop is a massive entity with so much diversity, its not just rap. I feel funk, soul, jazz, reggae, d'n'b, pop, rock, metal, all melding under one roof. I like to think there is something in the mix for everyone.
"We make music and music makes us"
I continue to learn and play guitar in the group but more recently have spent a lot of my time producing and writing tracks in our little home studio, learning about the ins and outs of recording and songwriting. It is a beautiful life when you know what you want to do with it.
I Hope you enjoy what you hear and that I haven't rambled on for 2 long, thanks for your time. Peace and Love,
Big Ritz .x.
Marcus Payne
I'm Marcus Payne aka 'Keese' (Big up Team dolphin for giving me the nick name). I grew up on the motherland that is Hayling Island. I like to spend my time Skateboarding, Partying, Singin' and chillin'.
I was in a few bands before joining the S.M.I.'s which helped to get a feel for what it takes to make a band work.
I started off with jamming at parties and Jaspers gaff with a few of the guys I grew up with and went to school with. It was always a good laugh, chilling out, getting wasted and creating loads of music and good times. I knew from the beggining, even though we were just fuckin' about, that this was the start of something epic.
I used to study Musical theatre and acting but didn't like the whole poncey atmosphere. I wanted to do something more real which allowed me to do what I wanted to do. To me it was all about making our own music rather than prancing around singing other peoples.
I think Everyone in the band brings there own flavor which is why we kick ass. James, the Producer and guitar wizard, Young MC Jasper, Domage the destroyer, what more can I say; Luke "sexy fingers" on the bass and Dave the Jazz king who can turn his hand to almost anything. Then there is me singing away and making some noises on the keyboard.
I want us to be able to put on a phat show, entertain people and hopefully get y'all enjoying what we enjoy so much. Thanks to all the hardcore S.M.I. veterans who are diggin' what we do
Love peace and unity. MP
Dave Story
Hi, I'm Dave. I started playing drums when I was 8 years old and never looked back.
I'm very grateful that I'm still studying music at University, my life would definitely be a whole lot different otherwise.
I joined to band after meeting James for jam sessions down the Inn on the Beach and we then met up for a few jam sessions of our own, creating riffs and a few song ideas. Y'know, the usual way of writing new material.
I joined the band knowing there would be a lot of different styles going down; funky, soulful, even jazzy beats.
Over the last couple of years I have been heavily influenced in this kind of music and so it was a very natural progression joining the band.
You people out there need watch out for this shit cos' its gonna' explode all over your music scene be it pop, rock, funk, hip-hop, rap, soul, jazz - you name it we fuse it.
Hope you enjoy the tunes and come see us live soon!
Luke Turner
Name is Luke Turner, and music has been, for so long now, one of the key elements of my life.
I have been playing bass for over 8 years, and naturally I'm inspired hugely by the world of funk. I like my music to have a 'feel good vibe' and to get people moving.
I live just outside of Portsmouth in a little place called Bedhampton and spend most of my time chilling with mates and making music.
My main influences, range from Bootsy, Jaco, and Les Claypool, experimental players with a huge passion for the 'groove'.
That about sums me up. In my eyes its all about having a good time however you go about it, and I am 'PROUD to be part of this production!'
Peace.
Band
A Brief History
We, the Slick Minded Individuals, formed in early 2008. The three of us (Rizzi, Ad and Jasper) started making basic rap songs with a ghetto 12 track. After much messing around we began to hear potential in our music and couldn’t stop creating, so we decided to seek out other members to form a full band.
It took the best part of a year but finally we found a quality set of fellow musicians. The additions of Marcus, Dave and Luke transformed us from 3 mates just having fun making music, into the full blown energetic sound that is the S.M.I. today.
As individuals we all bring our own flavour to the mix, so below is a little word from each of us on what were about. Click one of us to read more.
